How I Got Here: My Story, My Work, My Why

How i got here
3:35

Ever wonder what happens when a creative, people-first problem-solver lands in real estate? Hi, I'm April - I'm not your typical real estate professional and that's exactly the point! I am building this business around people, not transactions.

I grew up in a small town in Illinois, the oldest of four kids. I became a big sister at six and, in many ways, a second mom before I was out of elementary school. My childhood was filled with creativity and a constant love for learning.  I was the kid who asked for MORE homework in grade school - even when it wasn't assigned. I eventually started making more and more art. It was my escape, my joy, and eventually, my side hustle. By high school, I was selling paintings and also had the honor of winning multiple art awards!

We lived pretty simply, but that simplicity taught me a lot about doing what you can with what you have. My mom was a Stay-At-Home mom for most of my childhood, and my dad worked factory and farm jobs. I didn't go to college, but I've built my education through real life: running my own microblading and art businesses, working in customer service in retail , at a bank in a call center, and a law firm doing recruiting. Every job taught me something - especially about people, communication, and what I don't want my life to look like.

Art has always been a part of me. I'm a professional artist at heart, and creativity is what has consistently grounded me, shaping how I connect with people and how I show up in the world. It's not just about making things look good; it's about understanding people's stories and translating that into something meaningful. That mindset naturally flows into the way I do business - people first, thoughtful, and always with intention. My long-term vision is rooted in art because it's a space where I feel deeply connected, and that connection shapes how I show up for people, whether through art or real estate.

My Real Estate Journey

I'm not a traditional real estate agent, in fact, I'm NOT a Realtor so you may notice that I don't address myself as such. I'm a referral agent through eXp Commercial's Referral Division, which means I don't show homes or write contracts. What I do is help people across the US find agents they can truly trust. I focus on building relationships, understanding your needs, and connecting you with professionals who will treat you like a person - not just a transaction or a paycheck.

Now, I'm building a business that's rooted in authenticity, honesty, and heart. My superpower? I care. Deeply. I'm the one who checks in when things go quiet, the one who makes sure your agent is showing up the way they should, and the one who helps you feel seen during what can be a very overwhelming process.

I might be new to real estate, but I'm not new to listening, serving, and showing up. I've been doing that my whole life.

This is just the beginning, but I'm proud of how far I've come. My business isn't flashy or salesy - it's grounded, intentional, and built around real people. That's who I am, and that's the kind of experience I offer.

Thanks for being here. 💙
